A Poem on Psalm 11

Psalm 11:1

Under this threat of destruction

my heart has its own instruction

Fly not as a crow to the hills

fleeing from this wicked world’s ills

I fought not Goliath alone

The Lord of Hosts brings me Shalom

Psalm 11:2

Shadows sneaking in on the side

Seeking God’s kingdom to divide

Scheming in secret about us

In God alone you place your trust?

Their arrows fly to pierce your heart

In your peace I can have no part

11:3

When the foundations of the earth shift,

Will faith in sovereign God drift?

What can a single righteous man do

When the long dreaded destruction comes true?

11:4

In His holy temple He stands

For communion of God and man

He is still on His holy throne

Heaven’s power is His alone

Nothing ever escapes His sight

He justly divides dark from light

11:5

Yahweh tries even beloved light

The light that brings joy to His sight

How then could the wicked’s fate

Be less than Hell if them He hates?

Those that love violence have no place

Unless they take His offered grace

11:6

The just LORD’S fearsome cup of wrath

Is poured upon the wicked path

A rain of calamity there

Justice through wind and fire and snare

For sins against the righteous LORD

All of these are man’s just reward

11:7

Yahweh is the foundation stone

Of righteousness, and He alone

He’s loving toward a holy man

Made holy through His perfect plan

When He looks upon you and me

He sees Jesus at Calvary
