    Romans 8:1-11

    Are you in or out
    of Christ?
    Which path do you follow?
    In doubt do you wallow?
    Only in Him is there no doubt.

    The Law to me was crushing,
    First revealed to the Jews;
    Sin had made this Gentile sick,
    Sin and Law were rushing
    My immortal soul to Hell.

    But another Law of the Spirit
    Spared me from Hell deserved;
    The Law my sentence served
    My weary eyes then saw
    Jesus my awaited Christ.

    God and Son, of the same substance,
    Son sent in sinful flesh’s likeness,
    Lived a sinless life unlike us;
    In the workings of the Law lies no injustice.
    The Law was weak because flesh was imperfect.

    Our flesh made in His image,
    Yet we are all sinners under His Visage;
    Making us a true image was His work.

    Righteousness of Law in us wrought
    Through the atoning work of Jesus;
    That we may walk after the Spirit,
    Over our flesh, for we hold Him dearest.

    There is purpose in your route
    That reveals whom you salute,
    Whose rule is absolute
    If His righteousness He did impute,
    Or if in sin remaining destitute;
    When the Spirit moves, do you follow suit?

    If the mind is a slave to flesh,
    Then it is bound in chains of death;
    If the mind by the Spirit is set free,
    Then bound by death it will not be.

    The carnal mind to God is enmity,
    With hatred toward all things heavenly;
    Unable to be subject to God’s Law
    From such God will withdraw.

    The carnal man
    However, has a place
    In His redemptive plan.

    Are you a carnal man?
    Do you follow the Spirit’s Law?
    Are you part of the Master’s plan?
    Does His Spirit dwell in you?

    Sin has your body slain,
    But the Spirit brings life;
    His righteousness has no stain
    In Him there is no strife.

    Does that Spirit dwell within?
    The One that raised Him from the dead
    Gives you hope to look ahead
    To the quickening promised therein.
